Sept. 12-16: Pop & Settlement: Natives in Quebec

In the last two classes, we have completed notes about Natives in Quebec, circa 1500. You have a booklet that will help you achieve your learning goals. You should be able to:
-explain the origins and the migrations that led to the settlement of Quebec by the first occupants;
-identify different tribes belonging to ALGONQUIAN and IROQUOIAN language groups;
-describe the way of life of sedentary and nomadic tribes and be able to explain their organisation of territory.
We will also take one class to learn about the arrival of Europeans in eastern Canada in the early 1500's and their contact with natives in that area.

Next week, on FridaySept. 23, you will have a quiz on these concepts. The format for this test is: two maps (1-native territory, and major water bodies surrounding Quebec; 2-a world map); about 15-20 short answer questions. You should study the notes and information in your yellow booklet. In your textbook, refer to pgs. 16-18; 20-22.
